Today I came across a quote that I wanted to share.
“Goals provide the energy source that powers our lives. One of the best ways we can get the most from the energy we have is to FOCUS it. That is what goals can do for us; concentrate our energy.” — Denis Waitley
There are only 24 hours in a day. It is important that we be good stewards of the time God has given us. So whether you work in ministry or in a 9-to-5 position, goals will help you maximize the life we have been given.
I went many years wandering aimlessly, and wondering why I was not getting anywhere. One of the main reasons was because I did not have any set goals. I had good intentions. However I had no recognizable “fruit” as evidence that I was doing what the Lord had given me to do. More importantly I felt as if perhaps I was short changing God, and not using the giftings He had placed inside of me.
A very wise and anointed Woman of God (who happens to be my Spiritual Mom-Co-Pastor Elena Robertson) once explained to me the importance of having different goal categories. For instance, have personal goals as well as family goals. Also, she shared the importance of not having too many goals to try and FOCUS on at one time. Start with three goals, and FOCUS on completing just those three. Then once those first three goals are complete, then you can set three more goals to work towards finishing
So I put her wisdom into practice.
This is what I learned.
A goal must have 2 things:
1. Be Specific: write out exactly what you aim to do
2. Be Measurable: have a target completion date
Once you start working on something, then God can get in there with you adding His divine assistance. If you’re not working on anything or pursuing anything, how can He assist you?
In the END, I came up with my own motto.
~Do your best, and God will do the rest. ~
So far this is working out pretty good for me. I challenge you to set three goals of your own. Then let others know by commenting below. Or if you have other tips or suggestions regarding setting goals, share it here.
